About Me
Traditional basketry skills, acquired carefully over time using my hands, and the same tools that basketmakers have valued for generations. This, combined with my passion for oak (nurtured over a lifetime), enables me to create stunning feature lighting and statement homeware pieces, designed to be enjoyed both ornamentally and functionally.
Cocooned in my semi-circular Nissen hut studio, overlooking the Cornish countryside and wooded valley below, inspiration is never far away. I have a head full of ideas, a shed full of rustic oak pieces (too good to burn but not good enough to build with) and a field full of willow which I harvest annually to provide a supply of carefully selected varieties which enable me to make truly unique pieces. Attention to detail is paramount, through a curated support cast of light fittings, switches, cables; every aspect considered. When things don’t flow - then it’s time to sit and look at the view, listen (maybe) to the Cornish rain on the tin roof, have a cup of tea, and prepare to get stuck back in again.
The nickname coined for me by my husband (and widely agreed upon by those who know me) is WOMD, standing for Woman of Many Dreams. It seems appropriate to share this with you because I feel this private detail summarises the essence of who I am.
I have a lifelong history of dreaming – these have been wide and varied, but at their core are common threads – the desire to create and be surrounded by beautiful but useful things; to connect with nature and to strive for progress. I hadn’t realised how my earlier dreams would inform, nourish and feed the work I do now but that is absolutely the case. Those early projects laid the foundations that have evolved into what I do today: transferring vision into reality; finding intrigue and character in materials and working hard to elevate these into beautiful and functional homewares.
Working firstly with willow, primarily my own homegrown and hand harvested varieties nurtured within a stones’ throw of my studio, I blend traditional basketry techniques with contemporary styling to bring statement pieces to your home, often pairing these with characterful chunks or staves of oak to complete the vision. The result is a range of lighting, baskets and focal wall pieces lovingly made by me in my Cornish studio to illuminate and add a finishing touch to your dream space.
From one dreamer to another….
