Basketry Experience Day
Basketry Experience Day
It is a rare opportunity in our busy world to have time to focus on a single task, but it is this slow process - consuming the whole day, which lies at the very core of basketmaking.
The focus of this day is to make a small round basket with a handle, easy to carry and perfect for foraged hedgerow finds, eggs, beach combing, or just looking beautiful on a shelf; one of the pleasures is choosing how you will use it.
Using our hands and the same tools basketmakers have been using for generations we work through the process, transforming a bundle of ordinary looking sticks into a functional basket, oozing with character- some of my favourite baskets are those very first ones made by clients.
Alongside your handmade basket; you will leave with a wealth of basketry themed knowledge, a sense of achievement at having made something with your hands, and maybe even the desire to do it all over again.
The day runs from 10am until 4:30pm (approximately) and is £100 per person, with a maximum of 4 people per day to allow plenty of time for one-to-one attention.
Dates are listed as available for booking individual and double spaces if you wish to come and learn with a group of people (capped at 4). Alternatively, you can arrange to come with family or friends (3-4 people) on a privately arranged date. Please contact me to discuss availability.
Dates for 2026:

Saturday 18th July - 4 slots available
Saturday 19th September - 4 slots available
Basketry School
Basketry School
These sessions run from 6pm-9pm on the first Wednesday evening of the month for four consecutive months. Each session will focus on a specific area of round basketry, allowing time to really practice skills before you leave. The rest of the month gives you time to practice and repeat these skills prior to the next progressive session. This course is capped at a maximum of 5 students to allow plenty of time for one-to-one attention.
The price for this course is £150 per person.
All tools and materials are provided for on-site learning. The purchase of material for practice at home is highly recommended, and will be discussed within the first session.
Celebration Weave
Celebration Weave
This day focuses on a different style of basketry, allowing a group of people to work together on the same piece. It uses willow and cordage side by side to create a basket that is visually interesting and also interwoven with the handmade threads of each participant. While one person weaves, the others make cordage using natural materials - willow, iris, nettle, bramble, dandelion and others, depending on the season. Each person rotates through weaving and cordage making so that everyone gets to experience each process. By the end of the day you will have worked together to create a large basket in my unique oak handled style. The idea is that one person gets to take this home as a lifelong keepsake, having made it with, and surrounded by, friends or family.
The price for this day is £500 and I can accommodate groups of 2-4 people.
As these are private sessions, dates need to be individually arranged. Please contact me to discuss availability.
Teaching: When My space becomes Our space.
Spend time in my unique studio space, nestled in the very centre of our Cornish smallholding.
It is a particular pleasure of mine to work with groups of family and friends, providing an opportunity for shared slow time together.
Whether you choose to love your basket and cherish your memories, or whether this sparks a lifelong love of the craft, my hope is that you will have an inspiring and utterly absorbing time.
During all of these sessions, I will provide a selection of teas from the Tregothnan Estate, freshly ground Landmark coffee and a selection of handmade biscuits from The Cornish Mill and Bakehouse (the bakery on our neighbouring farm). The sessions are relaxed and the kettle can be popped on at anytime.
For full day courses, please provide your own packed lunch. If the weather is pleasant we can picnic outside in one of our beautiful smallholding picnic spots.
